A  mother and calf were on the surface. The calf was cavorting around with spy hops and rolling with its pectoral fins coming out of the water on occasion. I drifted by in front of them and the calf came over to check me out. He eyed me from above the water a couple times and proceeded to do a couple of rolls right next to me. The water visibility was not that good and although the mother was only 75' from me while the calf got within a few feet, she can barely be made out in a couple of shots. I suspect that the mother didn't want the calf so close and she swam at me while diving at the same time and the calf went down with her. They re surfaced about 50 yards on the other side of me and continued to hang on the surface. After about 15 minutes of the calf playing around the still mother, the mother rolled on her back and would bring her pectoral fins out of the water; sometimes one at a time and other times with both out. She went on to do a dozen or so tail slaps and then went back on her side and back with tail and pectorals breaking the surface and exposed in the air. Some spinner dolphins showed up shortly after her tail slaps; perhaps in response to the noise? The images below are in sequence with the calf swimming over to me, playing around and then the mother coming over and down with the calf joining her.
