There was a mother, calf and escort which had surfaced briefly about 200 yards away. The wind had shut down and I just sat where I was. 15-20 minutes later, the calf surfaced about 40' off my port and swimimg across my bow. The mother then surfaced between the calf and me.

While the mother crossed my bow, the escort had yet to surface. As no surprise really, I heard a blow to port and quite close! The escort had swam under my bow and his head surfaced just past me while he was still below my boat as well:

When the escort arched, it held its arch and moved further away from me; presumably to clear me and my boat before its tail came to the surface.

The smooth still water and quiet made this swim by spectacular and the whales were slow and graceful; seemingly in accord.
