This Hawksbill has a fishing line leading out of its mouth which you can see in the zoom below. What can't be seek is a hook and swivel attached to the line that is laying in the sand under the turtle's head. I couldn't tell if the hook is attached on the line seen here or mor likely on line coming out the other side of its mouth. I saw this turtle yesterday as well in another sand hole with its head completely under the coral shelf. I usually see these turtles active and feeding on the reef and I am concerned that this one has been seriously hampered by the presence of this fishing tackle. I will bring a line cutter with me tomorrow in case I come across the turtle again and am in a position to at least remove the gear outside of its mouth. I fear a second hook is in the turtle's tongue.
